The Introduction for Special Collection in GDOU Library
The construction and development is young and old project. The Special Collection Department (now the Special Literature Department) was established in April 1st, 2004. However, the construction was delayed because of our moving to the new library and it was not resumed until April 2002. According to the GDOU development plan, the major setting and the practice of our library, we constituted six special subjects to form the special collection£¬that is GDOU Literature Bank, Ocean Literature, Organism Picture Collection,
Zhanjiang Local Literature, GDOU Teaching Materials and Special Donated Books. These literatures are stored in the Special Literature Reading Section on the third floor of Main Library and available to the readers half and fourteen hours a day. What follows is the instruction for the six special subjects:
1. GDOU Literature Bank
GDOU Literature Bank includes Printed Literature Bank (PLB) and Digital Literature Bank (DLB). GDOU staff means all the faculty, students and missionaries who is working and studying or have the experience of once working and studying in GDOU or its former and all the institutions subordinate to GDOU and its former, the research task teams as well, are seen as the institutions of GDOU.
The collection range of PLB covers all formally and non-formally published works whose copy authorities belong to GDOU and the staff working in and the institutions of GDOU. It includes academic literature£¨containing all the literature written, edited, translated and reviewed by GDOU staff£©and other works (like dairy, notes, autobiography, letters, manuscripts, historic pictures, press clippings, certificates, drawing, and what¡¯s more). The things reminding of special memories are as well qualified to be collected. Presently more than 3,000 items have been collected.
The DLB is striving to become automatized, online and standardized. 2,500 pieces of the literature are selected from PLB and digitalized now¡£
2. Ocean Literature
Ocean Literature collects all literature about or related to ocean, regardless literature types and carriers. The content can be fishery and aquaculture statues and regulations, the literature on ocean tourism, oceanography, aquatic farming and ocean foodstuff. It has about 3,500 item of related literature.
3. Organism Picture Collection
Organism Picture Collection mainly stores the pictures, especially color pictures of all kinds of the organisms (including animals, plants, microorganisms). Now it has collected 700 items of related literature.
4. Zhanjiang Local Literature
Zhanjiang Local Literature covers all the literature representing Zhanjiang history, geography, natural conditions, social customs, cultural characteristics and anecdotes. The literature by Zhanjiang natives is also included. It now has 200 items of related literature, with the literature on the expositions held in Zhanjiang as part of it.
5. GDOU Teaching Materials
The content of this special subject is all the teaching materials and assistant materials used in GDOU, including informally published works. The materials are provided by GDOU Educational Administration Department. Till now it has contained 1,000 items of related literature.
6. Special Donated Books
Such books are the donated ones that can be exhibited. The library has set up ¡°Xiong Daren Shelf¡± and ¡°Sanqiansan Shelf¡±
Recruit Notice for Special Collection
The construction and development of special resources is always an important project in our library. We, hereby, recruit the literature related to the following special subjects to quicken the construction and richen the storage of the special collection in our library. Your donation will be greatly appreciated.
1. GDOU Literature Bank
Its collection range covers all the formally or informally published works (including the things reminding of special memories) whose copy authorities belong to GDOU and its former, and the staff working in and the institutions of GDOU and its former. Below are the details:
1) The formally published works by the faculty and students of GDOU (including the literature written, edited, translated, reviewed by GDOU institutions), their works published before they started working in GDOU, and the works formally published by GDOU institutions, like articles, books, patent literature, product sample materials, GDOU school newspapers and magazines.
2) The inside publications by GDOU, like GDOU Information, department materials, student society materials and propaganda materials for recruitment.
3) The special materials (like the alumni), pictures, video materials and souvenirs of GDOU important activities
4) The dissertations by postgraduates of GDOU, including printed and digital version.
5) Personal works by GDOU alumni.
6) The outside reports about GDOU.
7) The other related materials not listed above, like dairy, notes, autobiography, correspondences, manuscripts, old pictures, newspaper clippings, certificates, drawings.
Instruction:
¡ô There is no limit on the time span of GDOU Literature Bank collection range. The materials about its former, Zhanjiang Ocean University, are welcomed as well.
¡ô The works finished independently or with others are all considered eligible.
2. Ocean Literature
Ocean Literature collects all literature about or related to ocean, regardless literature types and carriers. The content can be fishery and aquaculture statues and regulations, the literature on ocean tourism, oceanography, aquatic farming and ocean foodstuff.
3. Organism Picture Collection
Organism Picture Collection mainly stores the pictures, especially color pictures of all kinds of the organisms (including animals, plants, micro-organisms). Now it has collected 700 items of related literature.
4. Zhanjiang Local Literature
Zhanjiang Local Literature covers all the literature representing Zhanjiang history, geography, natural conditions, social customs, cultural characteristics and anecdotes. The literature by Zhanjiang natives is also included.
The main methods to recruit the literature mentioned above:
¡ô Donation£ºOur library will stamp on all the donated literature with special donation seal to acknowledge and publicize the donators¡¯ generosity. The donators will receive a thank-you card. The donators are strongly recommended and welcomed to leave signature and words on the donated literature! As to the donation in large number which meets the criterions of being collected, the library will assign a special shelf for exhibition.
